Catholic Moral Decay

My friend 7lb. Dave sent me this piece about DePaul University instituting a ``queer studies`` program. I was certain it was a spoof, so I checked out the DePaul website. Sure enough, it`s on the curriculum!

The largest Catholic university in the United States has instituted a minor in ``transgender and queer studies``? I wonder if they are going to teach that this is a sin, according to Catholic doctrine? If not, what is the Vatican going to do about it?

Considering the pedophilia scandals in the Church, is a sympathetic study of perverse sexual behavior wise?

How long can Catholicism survive when those operating in its name flagrantly violate Church teachings?

Hi Capzap!

There definitely HAS been a problem with pedophilia and homosexuality in the Church for some time, and I am thankful it is coming out (no pun intended)now; sunshine is the best disinfectant. I think there has always been an element of it, but I think the ``reforms`` of Vatican II metastasized the problem. Something must be done!

My friend 7lb Dave is a member of a traditionalist Catholic parish-and he loves it! He had grown disgusted with the liberalism and mealy-mouthed inanity of traditional ``novus ordo`` Catholicism, and he believes the Latin-speaking traditionalists are moving things to where they should be. I hope he is right.

Here in St. Louis the Archdiocese has closed numerous parishes, and has gotten into a terrible fight with a ``nonconformist`` parish. (That is, a parish which is not under the direct authority and control of the Archdiocese.) St. Louis needed consolidation, but the parishes which were closed happened to have the best facilities, the best land, and the biggest bankrolls. The battle with St. Stanislaus is interesting in that St. S. has 10 million in the bank and a beautiful facility in downtown St. Louis. Although the Archdiocese offered to hold their money in a trust, the parishoners are understandably skeptical. The situation has gotten so bad that the Archdiocese has excommunicated the entire parish and issued a ban.

Why this sudden burst of closures? Pedophilia scandals have cost the Church huge amounts of cash.

You are absolutely correct; repitition leads to complacency, and constant exposure to the concept of ``gay``-in books, on television (Will and Grace), in movies, and on campuses is a normalizing strategy.

Homosexuality is condemned by all the world`s major religions, and the civilizations which have been ``tolerant`` of it have collapsed. The most famous example in history was Classical Greece. The Classical period was very short, and the Greek system fell into warfare and barbarism. For centuries after, Greeks were considered smarmy little deviates, and the Romans advised locking up your wife and daughters-and sons-when Greeks came to town. The modern Greek is nothing like this, but I believe the acceptance of a freewheeling sexuality removed the constraints on the majority of individuals, and chaos (sexual and otherwise) resulted.

Christianity is the last force for moral decency in the West, and the rising tide of liberalism has withered that morality away. If the Church comes to accept that which, until a few years ago was considered an abomination, then there is nothing left to stop the slide into hedonism and anarchy.
